WiFi calling not an option on T-Mobile Nexus 4 devices
Are you looking forward to getting your hands on a new LG Nexus 4 from T-Mobile? If so, you should be aware of one feature the new smartphone will not have – WiFi calling. T-Mobile confirmed this would be the case after many potential buyers started asking questions about the feature. WiFi calling does require a specific app or code to be enabled and is usually inserted by the carriers. Considering the Nexus 4 is produced by LG for Google, it should probably not be surprising that T-Mobile was not able to get carrier specific features included on the devices.
T-Mobile and AT&T agree to let customers share networks in hurricane aftermath
AT&T and T-Mobile announced an agreement today to help customers of both carriers who are located in Hurricane Sandy’s heavily impacted areas. The agreement enables customers of either network to roam on the other network in a seamless fashion as if they were on their primary network. Roaming in the impacted areas will not result in any additional fees. Both networks use GSM and UMTS, making the agreement feasible. The carriers hope this will help customers who are having trouble getting a signal. Hit the break for the full press release.
MetroPCS hits the 1 million LTE customer mark, makes $193 million profit in third quarter
In news that I’m sure will be pleasing to T-Mobile, MetroPCS has hit the one million mark in subscribed LTE customers (about 11% of its customers) and have also turned a profit of $193 million, even though they lost over 300,000 customers in the third quarter. How does one manage to turn such a profit while losing so many customers? MetroPCS credits “cash-saving exercises”, timely investments, and reducing a top priority of cell companies – churn. I’m sure a lot of MetroPCS and T-Mobile customers alike are wondering what the merger has in store for them. Hopefully it’ll end up benefitting the customer in some form or fashion.
