Google Is Bringing December Back To Jelly Bean
Google announced it will correct the bug which prohibited the entry of December events into the updated People app in Android 4.2. The good news came via a Google+ post for the official Android account. While no specific date was given we’re hopeful “soon” means sometime before December arrives. Some people I still think this may have been Google’s attempt to prevent the end of the world by not allowing 12/21/2012 to come. Read the full statement below.
Android 4.2 OTA update and factory image live for ‘yakju’ Galaxy Nexus
With the Takju variant of the Samsung Galaxy Nexus received Android 4.2 last week, it’s now the Yakju’s turn. To be specific, this 4.2 update is for the international version of the Galaxy Nexus not purchased in the Play Store and you should be running build JZO54K as a prerequisite before updating. Along with the 4.2 update, Google was also nice enough to provide the factory images to go along with the update. The OTA should be hitting applicable devices soon, or you could always try to fetch the update yourself via setting/about phone.
Android 4.2 thinks there are just 11 months in a year, omits December
The newest iteration of Android, version 4.2 Jelly Bean, seems to think there are just 11 months in a year, effectively leaving out December altogether. No presents? No Santa? What ever shall we do?
Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean update for Samsung Galaxy S II leaked
The first leak of an Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean build for Samsung Galaxy S II devices has surfaced. Labeled as build I9300XLSJ, the firmware update was originally posted by XDA Developers forum member izap. The update includes all of the normal enhancements one would expect from a Jelly Bean update like performance improvements courtesy Project Butter, new home screen modes, a new notification bar, and Google Now.
Android 4.2 Pushed To AOSP
The source code for the latest version of Jelly Bean, Android 4.2, is now available on AOSP (Android Open Source Project). This means manufacturers and custom ROM developers can start using this code to build Android 4.2 ROMs for current device upgrades and, of course, future devices.
Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 Beginning To Receive Jelly Bean Update In Germany
In all the hubbub of Samsung’s smartphones getting the coveted Jelly Bean update, we seem to have forgotten that its other devices are expected to get Jelly Bean as well. Android 4.1.2 Update For Samsung Galaxy Note Speculated To Feature TouchWiz Nature UI And Multi-Window, Video Surfaces Adding Further Speculation
As original Galaxy Note owners eagerly await the possible arrival of Jelly Bean 4.1.2 on their devices, we are now beginning to see signs of which custom features will be found in the update. Similar to the Galaxy Note II smartphone and the incoming Android 4.1.2 update due to for the Galaxy S III next month, the original Galaxy Note will include the awesome TouchWiz Nature UI and the multi-window feature, allowing for true multitasking and the ability to use multiple apps at once on the Galaxy Note.
LG Rumored To Sell Nexus 4 At A Significantly Higher Cost Than What Is Found In The Play Store
While it’s exciting that Google is selling the Nexus 4 through its Play Store for as little as $299 here in the US and parts of Europe, it looks like those in other parts of the world may not be so lucky to grab the device for such a low price. According to Androidos, there are reports coming in from Europe indicating that LG will be selling the Nexus 4 directly for as much as €599 or $768 USD in countries like Italy. Additional reports indicate similar pricing for other markets including Spain and India, which will likely see the device priced at INR 34K or 35K (roughly $650 USD).
Security Features a big part of Android 4.2
Amongst the many other additions that will be part of Android 4.2, it looks like keeping your device secure will be a priority as well. I know we don’t like the idea of malware on our Android devices, but the fact is, it’s out there. Google is looking to combat that in 4.2 by offering the option of scanning an application before it’s fully installed. Once the app is scanned, if it finds something suspicious within the app, it’ll then prompt you and inform you as such and give you the option to continue. Additionally, the scanner will block the installation completely if the fingerprint matches existing malware.
