Google’s Android team wishes everyone a Happy Holiday with this magical video
Sure I am a fan of Google and Android, but putting that aside, Google puts together some of the best promo videos. Today’s Happy Holidays video from team Android is another one to throw into the mix. This one is set at Google headquarters during a holiday party when one employee notices a lonely bugdroid. He sets up various Nexus devices around him showing a Christmas tree, a snowfall, and a fireplace, along with a little holiday music. All of this sets the stage for a magical ending. Hit the break to see it for yourself.

Google sums up a year’s worth of internet searches with Zeitgeist 2012
I’d say most, if not all, of our visitors might have used Search engines to search for something this year once or twice. Just a few periods. Or probably many, many periods. Search engines conducted over 1.2 billion web queries in 146 dialects, so it should not shock anyone that Google’s got a handy on the beat of the internet. And with the information from those 1.2 billion web queries, Search engines summarized 2012 in a 2 minute movie. And in common Search engines fashion, there happens to be few happy easter time ! in it clip. Hit the break for it clip and the link Google’s own page for Zeitgeist 2012.
Google’s Eric Schmidt sends message to Apple, explains the ‘adult way to run a business’
While Google’s Eric Schmidt may have once served on the board of directors at Apple, that apparently hasn’t affected his impartiality. The search giant’s executive chairman took a direct shot at Apple today in an interview with the Wall Street Journal, sending the Cupertino company a personal message, letting them know that the current way they are conducting business is laughingly based on a “teenage model of competition,” as the press would like to put it.
Better Maps Headed to Your Apps
Soon, we should all see better maps within some of the apps that we use. Today, Google launched an update to their Maps API that developers will use to incorporate Google Maps into their apps. This new API version will benefit both developers on the front-end as well as users on their end. It’ll allow developers to create their map features with less code and also provide them with the ability to incorporate satellite, hybrid, terrain, traffic and indoor maps into their apps, much like Google Maps currently does.
Google releases Android 4.2.1 (JOP40D) factory images and binaries for Nexus devices
As expected, Google just posted the factory images and binaries for Android 4.2.1 (JOP40D) for the family of Nexus devices. For the Nexus 10, the factory image is still at JOP40C due to an issue. These files allow you to restore any of these Nexus devices to stock if you ever get into trouble, so download them now and keep them in a safe place. Links are below for both the factory images and the binaries.
Motorola to close dedicated websites for some markets
Not too long ago Motorola reported they were going to be downsizing a bit after Google bought them. Looks like some of that downsizing is going to come in the form of website consolidation in other countries. This basically means that you’ll be redirected to a server in another country when you try to visit a Motorola site if you’re on the list to lose the dedicated website.
Google to take on Apple’s AirPlay, hopes to move the technology forward
Google is apparently working on an alternative to AirPlay, and we’re not referring to Miracast either. We’ve discussed Miracast recently, and media streamers aren’t really anything new, however Google is looking to move this technology forward by bypassing the ‘external box’ part and solely use the device in hand coupled with a TV, or even a laptop.
Google Nexus 4 Smartphone Is The Only Nexus Device To Currently Support Miracast At This Time
While we know that the new Nexus 4 will support the coveted Miracast feature thanks to Android 4.2, it appears that the Nexus 7 and Nexus 10 will each not support Miracast, despite operating on Android 4.2 as well. There seems to have been a major discussion on a Google Forum on whether or not the tablets would feature Miracast and while some users reported it worked and others didn’t— a user by the name of Eth@n took some time to confirm the following:
Google updates Play Store to include new UI features
Google has rolling out an update to the Play Store since late last night, and even though it doesn’t have any drastic changes, the UI and recommendations have been polished up, which is a nice touch. The most notable difference is the post-install screen after installing an app; it’s a clean looking screen with a button to quickly enable automatic updates.
